Toshiba UF3F: what it ships with and what can come off

This is the generation that follows the UF3D, and it is an entry-level Fire TV: the television plenty of people buy for the bedroom or the kitchen without giving it much thought.
Its official spec sheet has one peculiarity worth telling before anything else, because it is not easy to spot.
The brightness, with no unit
Toshiba's spec sheet states, in a field called simply "Brightness", the value 250 on the 43-inch model, 275 on the 50 and 300 on the 55 and the 65.
And it does not say of what. No "nits", no "cd/m²", no other unit at any point in the document.
They are almost certainly nits, because those are figures that fit a television in this bracket. But a spec sheet that gives a number with no unit is not giving you a fact: it is giving you half a fact. We point it out because this site is precisely about reading what spec sheets say.
With that reservation, the useful reading is that the brightness barely changes between sizes: from 250 to 300 there is very little distance, and none of those figures is enough for real HDR. This television will show HDR content, but it will not make much of it.
Three HDMI ports, and eARC takes one
This television has three HDMI inputs, not four. And eARC is, according to the sheet, on HDMI 2.
With a soundbar plugged in there, you have two ports left for everything else: a set-top box and a console, and that is that. If you also have a disc player, you are already tight.
It is not a hidden defect, but it is the kind of thing you discover on the day you set it up. If you know you are going to need more, count it before you buy.
What the sheet does not say
The refresh rate. It appears nowhere in the document: no "Hz", no "refresh", nothing. On a television in this range that almost always means 60 Hz, but Toshiba does not state it and we are not going to state it on its behalf.
Neither RAM nor storage. And here it really does matter, more than on an expensive set: at the entry level, the storage is what decides whether the machine will still be able to update itself three years from now. When it fills up, apps stop updating and in the end the television cannot apply its own system update.
You can find it out yourself, and you should do it before you install anything
else. With ADB connected, df -h /data tells you how much there is and how
much is left free, and cat /proc/meminfo | head -1 gives you the total
memory.

Exactly which HDR formats it takes. The sheet says "Dolby Vision HDR: yes" and "HDR: yes", without naming HDR10 or HLG. Supporting Dolby Vision almost certainly implies supporting HDR10, because that is the base it is built on, but again: we are assuming it, we are not reading it.
What it is, in two lines
A 2025 4K set with direct backlighting —DLED, not Mini LED— and energy class G in HDR across all four sizes, which is the worst on the scale.
The sound does scale with the inches, and it is among the best things on the sheet: 2 × 8 W on the 43, 2 × 10 W on the 50 and the 55, and 2 × 12 W on the 65, tuned by Onkyo and with Dolby Atmos. For the entry level that is above the usual.
It also brings Bluetooth, a CI+ slot, ethernet, a digital optical output and Alexa built in, with a microphone in the television itself.
How to tell whether this sheet is your television's
The British references are 43UF3F53DB, 50UF3F53DB, 55UF3F53DB and
65UF3F53DB. In other European markets the suffix changes —you will see things
like UF3F63DA or UF3F63DAE— but the family is the same: what identifies the
television is the UF3F block in the middle.
Under Settings → My Fire TV → About you get the model and the Fire OS
version. With ADB connected, getprop ro.product.model gives the internal
identifier, which in this family starts with AFT.

What being Fire TV and not Google TV changes
If you have come from reading the page for a television with Google TV, forget the names you knew:
There are no Google packages. No com.google.android.tvlauncher and no
com.google.android.gms. Here the prefix in charge is com.amazon..
There is no Play Store. The store is Amazon's Appstore
(com.amazon.venezia), with a smaller catalogue. If you overdo the removals,
going back is less comfortable than on a Google TV.
The home screen is Amazon's, and it is among the most commercial on the market.
ADB works the same. Fire OS is Android underneath, so the commands are the same as on any other page of this site. What changes is the list of names, not the method.
What ships on it
Amazon's own. The launcher (com.amazon.tv.launcher), the store
(com.amazon.venezia), Prime Video and a good number of services with the
com.amazon. prefix. It is most of what is there.
Third-party apps. Netflix, Disney+ and the catch-up television apps of the country it is sold in. The remote usually carries dedicated buttons; the button stays even if you remove the app, it will simply stop leading anywhere.
Toshiba's own. Very little: the picture processing lives in the firmware, not in the package list, so nothing you do here can spoil it.
What comes off without much thought
The streaming apps you do not use. On a television whose storage you do not know until you look at it, every one of them is space you may well need. If you subscribe tomorrow, they reinstall from the store in two minutes.
The catch-up apps of channels you do not watch, which on these models come in numbers and take up room.
What to look at first
On Fire TV two settings take away a good share of the noise with no risk at all and no ADB: under Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings you turn off device usage data collection and interest-based ads. Start there.
And if you do not use Alexa, in the microphone settings you can turn off the listening. It is a two-click change that a lot of people appreciate.
What not to touch
The launcher (com.amazon.tv.launcher), as long as you have no other one
installed and working. On Fire TV this is more delicate than on Google TV
because there are fewer alternatives and Amazon's store does not offer them.
The store (com.amazon.venezia): without it you cannot reinstall anything you
remove.
Anything starting with com.android. that you cannot identify:
com.android.systemui is the system interface and com.android.settings is
the settings themselves.
And everything to do with HDMI and the control of external devices, which is where the eARC on HDMI 2 passes through.
Write down what you remove
It holds for any television, but on a Fire TV it holds twice over: Amazon reactivates things with updates more often than Google does. Keep the list in a text file with the full command beside each entry, and save the complete package list before you touch anything.
What you actually notice
Storage recovered, which matters here because you did not know how much you had. A considerably less commercial home screen. And less background activity, which on a television with this processor shows more than on an expensive one.
What does not change: the brightness, the panel or the Onkyo sound. None of that depends on the apps installed.
If the hardware falls short for you
It is an entry-level television. If it still struggles after the clear-out, the reasonable way out is to leave it as a screen and put an external player in front of it. The panel will go on being the same one, which is what you paid for, and the interface becomes one you can choose.
All of this comes undone
Packages disabled over ADB come back with one command, and a factory reset returns the television to the state it left the box in. Nothing here touches the system: you are only telling the set not to load something that was already installed.
If you own one
Three figures are missing from this television, the three Toshiba does not
publish: the refresh rate, the RAM and the storage. The output of
df -h /data and of cat /proc/meminfo, together with your app list, would
close a sheet that today has more holes than facts.
